Can you believe another year has come and gone? Seriously, where does the time go and why does it feel like the older we get the quicker the years slip by?? I guess time flies when you’re having fun? And getting older is super fun, right?
Now the year is winding down, holiday parties are coming to an end and we are about to turn over a blank page of a new fresh year. Seems like the perfect time to hit the reset button and get your heath and wellness goals rolling.
So what is your resolution? Are you hoping to shed a few pounds that seem to have creeped up over all the holiday eating? Maybe you are looking to get healthier and feel better? Lose some inflammation and manage pain more naturally? So many goals so little time.
Please, don’t become that person who sets a goal and then forgets 2 weeks later. So many people start there year with health and wellness goals set, all the local gyms are packed full and healthy foods are overflowing from everyone’s carts at the grocery store. Then 2 weeks later the gyms are empty and the junk food is back on the menu. Let’s commit to not doing that this year, ok?
How can we make this year different? Well, by getting organized and making plans! That’s how! Let me share with you 5 steps to killing your health and wellness goals this year!
Write it down!!
The first step to accomplishing any goal is to write it down!! People who right down goals are over 30% more successful at achieving those goals. So get out a piece of paper and a pen and get to writing your healthy goals! Keep a journal throughout the year and track those goals. Tracking where you are and where you need to go helps you stay zeroed in and focused on accomplishing those goals.
Visualize living your goal!
I honestly struggled with this one myself for awhile. I couldn’t understand how visualizing my self skinny or more energetic or rich and debt free could possibly help me get there. But I am open to trying anything so I gave it a whirl and it works. Create a vision board and look at it every day. Spend a moment in the morning, maybe while you are brushing your teeth, to just see yourself living your health and wellness goals. It’s not going to hurt you and it just may help you stay on course. If you are a diabetic struggling with keeping your blood sugars level try to visualize a day with stable blood sugar readings. If you are struggling with your weight visualize a slimmer, trimmer you. Go out and buy that perfect outfit in your goal size and hang it where you can see it every morning. All this visualization helps you keep your goals at the forefront of your thoughts.
Define your why!
Knowing exactly why you want to achieve your health and wellness goal is extremely powerful. Defining the why of your goal helps you to instantly see why you are aiming for that goal and whether it is what you really want to work towards. After all, if the purpose of your weight loss goal is because you want to fit that favourite pair of jeans again you likely wouldn’t be as motivated as if you needed to lose weight to reverse a prediabetic diagnosis. Knowing why you want something is a powerful motivation so define your why as clearly as possible.
Create a plan of action
Being clear about your health and wellness goals, defining your why and writing it all down on paper gives you clarity of where you are headed. Now you can use that clarity to write out your action plan. Maybe you don’t quite know all the steps right now but as you complete one step of your plan the next step will become more clear. Take the time to write out your action plan as having a goal without a plan is just like having a dream. A “someday” type dream will not get you to your health goals. Setting priorities and giving yourself deadlines sets you up for success!
Taking the time to hold yourself accountable gives you that little extra push you will need when you are in a tough spot. Quite often it is helpful to have an accountability group to help you hold yourself to a high standard. Talk to your friends and family, tell them what your health and wellness goals are and why they are so important to you. Ask them to help you be accountable for following your action plan and to be your support when you need it. You can also join an accountability group on Facebook. We have a health and wellness group full of supportive members and monthly health challenges. Click here to join us.
So as this year draws to an end and the new year rings in let’s do our very best to not just set those health and wellness goals but to see them through to the very end. Now, is your time and today is the first day of the rest of your life!
