Belly fat! Is this something you struggle with? I think belly fat is one of my biggest personal struggles. I often look at other body shapes and think if only I gained weight more evenly over my body it wouldn’t be quite so noticeable. You know what I mean? Instead I tend to store all my weight in my belly. Like a stubborn spare tire!! How many times have you been ask when you are due? Seriously! I am about to be a Gramma and I still have people questioning when my baby will come! No baby here just some stubborn belly fat! Now, let me share with you how you (and I) can lose that belly fat and get those slick abs we have been waiting for!
Quit the sugar!
There I said it! Now, let me say it again, quit sugar!! I know, I know sugar is our friend, our confidant and our blissful little treat but it needs to go. Our bodies treat sugar differently then other calories we consume, sugar confuses our natural appetite control and pushes our bodies to create fat. It was once explained to me like this, when sugar enters our bodies it is like tiny little shards of glass that cause little nicks and cuts through out our insides. So in order to combat stop these shards of glass from doing more harm our bodies wrap the shards of glass (sugar) in fat and store them away, usually around our bellies. Not very helpful if you are trying to lose belly fat, right? So by quitting sugar or at least cutting back on the sugar you should begin to notice that belly fat melting away.
Drink Less Alcohol
I am quite certain it is very tempting to reach for that glass of wine or bottle of beer at the end of a long, hard day. However, studies have shown that alcohol is one of the main offenders when it comes to storing belly fat. If you are spending the evening relaxing with say, 2 glasses of wine, that’s an extra 27,000 calories per year, which is the equivalent of 20lbs. And you know why it’s called a beer belly, right? So if you are looking to lose belly fat cut the alcohol from your diet. If that sounds to extreme at least try to cut back, instead of 2 glasses of wine in the evening opt for just one.
There seems to be a lot of evidence out there that suggests that protein is the key to losing that belly fat. Why? Well that juicy steak, or any other form of protein, releases a hormone telling your brain you are full. Pretty handy feature when you are hoping to lose some inches. Adding a small amount of protein to your meals should help you to not overeat. Also, protein can bump up your metabolic rate and help you build better muscle before and after exercising. More muscle is good! Especially, since muscle helps to burn more calories, which will help trim up your waist line! Throw a helping of protein in every meal, breakfast, lunch and supper. Easy!
Eat more fiber
Look for soluble fiber. It is ideal in helping burn tummy fat as it forms a gel with the foods in your digestive tract, slowing everything down. This slow moving food keeps you feeling fuller longer, meaning you will automatically eat less. One of my favorite, quick easy ways to get more soluble fiber in my daily routine is to toss some chia seeds in whatever I happen to be cooking. I actually used chia seeds in some meatballs we were cooking and the kids and my hubby didn’t even notice they were there. Plus the meatballs held their moisture and their shape without the added carbs from bread crumbs. I’d say that’s a win!
Reduce your stress level
I hear ya! This one can be a little more tricky. Life is fast paced, overbooked and full of stress triggers, I know! However, stress is a big belly fat contributor so if you want to lose belly fat you need to lose the stress! Stress will actually cause your body to release the stress hormone, cortisol. This lovely little hormone increases your appetite causing you to eat more and gain more weight. Quick way to relieve stress every day? Get out in nature, go for a walk on a nice nature trail and just be in the moment. Seriously, this helps melt away stress!!
Try a supplement
There are lots of great supplements available to help with weight loss and muscle tone. My favorite is Emulin. I take this little pill faithfully every day and with it’s help I have lost 30lbs. It is a natural supplement that helps our bodies manage the carbs and sugars we consume. But what I really find the most helpful is that it cuts 1/3 of the calories absorbed by our bodies. That can be helpful when you are trying to trim up the midsection. Learn more about Emulin and weight loss here!
