Eating low carb on the go can get tricky. It is easy to let life’s busyness get in the way of staying low carb and no sBut if you truely want to make something work you find a way. So you have piano lessons, football practice and a trip to the dentist all after school and over the supper hour. Kids are whining, because well kids get hungry!! So how do you feed yourself and those kids quick? If you are anything like me, straight to the nearest fast food drive thru and far from your low carb, preplabned meal. But don’t let the quick detour through you off your low carb game. Check out these 5 best low carb fast food options.
Headed to A&W? Here in our home town A&W is a popular fast food option and maybe you didn’t realize this but A&W has some amazing low carb options! My personal favourite item on the A&W menu is the Teen Burger. Low carb fast food is actually pretty easy. Just have your favourite A&W burger wrapped in lettuce and get rid of the bun. With only 6-7 carbs any burger and A&W is a very tasty low carb fast food option!
Subway is one of the best low carb places to eat. I always really enjoyed the Chicken Bacon Ranch sub. Subway was our go to place in high school but in those days I wasn’t really concerned about carbs. Now I can go to subway and have any sub turned in to a salad. The Chicken Bacon Ranch Salad is delicious and only 9 net carbs. Plus it is full of fibre and protein which keeps you feeling fuller longer. Subway is a top low carb fast food option for my family.
DQ is definitely a fan favourite. My kids love the chicken strip meals and I like the price point. When we visit DQ I order the BLT Salad with grilled chicken and skip the dressing. I don’t mind skipping the salad dressing with salad because it is so flavourful it doesn’t really require dressing in my opinion. And this lovely salad is only 10 grams of carbs, pretty impressive for such a filling salad.
It wouldn’t be a fast food list without McDonald’s! So the obvious choice at McDonald’s would be a grilled chicken cesear salad, which is only 14 grams of carbs. But when I hit McDonald’s I feel the need for a Big Mac, don’t you? But you can still stick to your low carb diet and have a Big Mac! Just go bunless! Add a side salad and a Diet Coke and you are enjoying McDonald’s while and eating low carb.
We very recently had an Extreme Pita open here and it quickly became a lunch time favourite. I love the selection and all the extra add ons. Eating a pita can be pretty high carb do to the pita bread but Extreme Pita has a good selection of salads and the ability to change any pita in to a salad is also helpful. My favourite option is the philly cheese pita as a salad but I also enjoy the southwest chicken bowl. At 42 net carbs it is a little higher in carbs but it is packed full of nutritious stuff.
I am a true believer in being prepared and eating at healthy food at home as much as possible but I know life gets busy sometimes. It is on those busy days that I am grateful for Emulin and the best low carb fast food options to keep me on track and feeling great!
