Have you ever attempted to quit sugar for 30 days to see how it will reduce the inflammation in your body? I have done this and the results are really amazing.
How does sugar cause chronic inflammation? Look at it like this, when you eat sugar your body can not process it properly. So it enters your blood stream as sharp little shards, like glass. As it floats around the sugar causes little cuts in your veins, and throughout your body. This is when you immune system kicks in and attempts to stop the sugar from causing more damage. Your body does this by wrapping the sugar shards in a layer of fat and storing them in your body.
That is how you end up with low grade chronic inflammation caused by your body’s constant battle with sugar. And it is a constant battle. The average person consumes an estimated 110 grams of sugar per day! That’s a lot of sugar and it is really not a necessary part of our diets.
So what happens when you quit sugar for 30 days? Well number one of course is you can reduce chronic inflammation by cutting sugar for any amount of time. Other added benefits if you quit sugar is improved overall health, more radiant skin and you can even lose some extra pounds. All these seem pretty wonderful for just cutting one simple product from your diet.
However sugar is addicting and many people have a real dependency on sugar. When you eat sugar you get a boost in mood and possibly energy as well. Then you crash and the sugar craving comes back. It is a cycle that can be very difficult to break. It becomes a habit to reach for something sweet and sugary when you hit that afternoon lull in energy.
Another reason it can be hard to quit is sugar is hidden in so many products. We all know to avoid cake, chocolate and ice cream but you don’t except to find sugar in your tomato sauce, salad dressing and bread. All these seemingly healthy choices are loaded with sugar. Basically you are eating sugar from the moment you wake up until the last meal of the day. That’s a lot of sugary products to replace.
But, good news. Quitting is possible! Take a look at these great tips to quit sugar.
- Eat foods high in protein and fiber. These types of foods are satisfying and keep you fuller longer. Make sure every meal and snack you eat contains a good balance of protein and fiber. Great choice are nuts, eggs and avocado.
- Choose sour foods like kimchi and sauerkraut. Sour foods kick sugar cravings to the curb. Many people have reported a decrease in sugar cravings after introducing sour foods to their diets.
- Drink water! Drinking more water will help you feel full and will also flush all the excess sugar in your body. Flushing the sugar will help curb the cravings and as an added bonus it can help you lose weight.
- Also be sure to check out Emulin. When I started taking Emulin I also quit eating sugar. Now it wasn’t a miracle pill but I did not experience the sugar withdrawals some people deal with and it cut my sugar cravings to basically none.
