Back to School Sugar Free
I am really not one to believe kids should be on a “diet”. I do, however, believe the hidden sugar in everything we eat is effecting the health of kids everywhere. Back when my oldest son started school (he is 20 now!!) I was a young, stay at home mom with only 2 small children. School lunches were done right! Fruits, veggies, good wholesome foods. Not completely sugar free school lunches but pretty close.
Fast forward 15 years and I am now an older, far more tired, working full time mom with 4 kids, although 2 are technically adults but that’s a whole different story. Lunches have become a sugar fest in the cafeteria and I have no doubt it is effecting my kids ability to focus and do well in school. So we are headed back to school in less then 2 weeks and we will be going back with sugar free school lunches!!
Wonder how sugar can effect your kids at school? For one sugar definitely decreases attention span and memory. Little ones are already so busy. So when we bombard their little brains with sugar we are just adding fuel to the fire.
Sugar also contributes to obesity, which can make children more susceptible to health problems. When kids are not feeling well they are certainly not able to put their best foot forward at school.
School can be hard for kids. They are learning so much and it can be a real struggle to keep up and retain all that information. So for me it is important to get back to good sugar free school lunches. Back to wholesome fuel for their brains instead of quick, sugar filled, empty calorie food. Are you with me?
I am curious to see how cutting out all that afternoon sugar will effect my kids. What I am hoping to see is improved focus at school and a better memory. Not just so they retain what they are being taught but also so they can “remember” their homework!! I value my kids education and I want to give them the best chances at doing well. We all put our kids to bed at decent times, make them do their homework and look after personal hygiene. Now it’s time to start loading their bodies with nutritious sugar free food.
